Is Dholera investment politically driven?
Dholera is a mix of big government dreams and real business plans. While politicians started the project to make a new smart city, the goal is to build a place where global companies can actually make things and provide jobs for thousands of people. The Big Picture of Dholera People ask me this all the time at my office. They want to know if the Dholera Special Investment Region is just a way for leaders to look good on TV. To be honest, most big projects in India start because a leader wants to leave a mark. But that does not mean the city is a fake. It is part of the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor, which is a fancy way of saying a giant road and train path for moving goods across the country. Why Politics and Business Mix I have spent five years looking at dirt and maps. I have seen projects start and stop because of who is in charge. Dholera is different because it has been around through different leaders. It is not just one person’s toy anymore. What I Saw When I Visited When I drove down there last year, I expected to see nothing but signs with faces of politicians on them. Instead, I saw massive pipes. These pipes are for a plug and play system. That means a company can just show up, plug into the water and power, and start working. Final Thoughts for Regular People If you are thinking about putting your money there, don’t just do it because a politician said it is the future. Do it because you see the factories being built. Urban planning takes a long time, often twenty or thirty years. Dholera is definitely a political project, but it is also a real construction site. It is like a giant puzzle. The government put down the first few pieces, and now they are waiting for the rest of the world to finish the picture. It is risky, but every new city in history started with a leader who had a big, crazy idea.
