What is status of Ahmedabad-Dholera expressway?

The Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway is currently very close to being finished, with most of the main road already paved and ready. You can expect to see cars driving on the majority of this 109 kilometer stretch by early 2025, although a few big bridges are still being worked on.

My Life Watching Roads Change

I started looking at land and buildings back in the early 1970s. Back then, we did not have fancy computers or digital maps. We had paper maps that smelled like old dust and ink. I have watched cities like Ahmedabad grow from small, quiet towns into huge, busy monsters.

This new road to Dholera is not just a regular street. It is a massive project that will change everything. I have visited the site myself many times. I have talked to the workers covered in red dust and grease. I have seen the heavy machines moving mountains of earth. Because I have been doing this for 50 years, I know when a project is real and when it is just talk. This one is very real.

The Current Progress Report

  • Most of the road is paved. If you drive out there today, you can see long stretches of black tarmac. It looks like a giant shiny ribbon cutting through the green fields.
  • The project is split into nine parts. In the real estate world, we call these packages. Some parts are 90 percent done, while others are stuck at 70 percent because of tricky bridge work.
  • The Sardar Patel Ring Road connection. This is the most important part for people living in Ahmedabad. The work at the start of the expressway is very busy right now with lots of tractors and cranes.
  • Bridges are the slow part. Building a flat road is easy for these big companies. Building a bridge over a river or another road takes a lot of time and care. This is why the whole thing is not open yet.
  • The 2025 deadline. The government wants it done fast. They want it to be the main pipe that carries people and big trucks to the new Dholera Special Investment Region.

Why This Road Matters For Your Pocket

  • Time is money. Right now, it takes a long time to get to Dholera on the old, bumpy roads. This new road will cut that time to less than an hour.
  • Land prices are jumping. I have seen this happen a hundred times in my life. As soon as the first car drives on a new highway, the price of the dirt next to it goes up like a rocket.
  • The Smart City connection. This road connects the old city we love to the city of the future. It is like a bridge between two different worlds.
  • High speed safety. This is a four lane road that can become eight lanes later if more people move there. It is built for fast cars, not for slow farm tractors.

A Warning From An Old Man

I have seen many people lose their life savings because they got too excited and didn’t think. They see a new road and they throw their money at any piece of trash land they find nearby. Do not do that. Before you buy anything near this expressway, you must check the Gujarat RERA website to make sure the builders are honest. If a developer tells you the road is finished tomorrow, he is lying to your face. It will take another twelve to eighteen months before every single inch is perfectly smooth and ready for everyone to use.

I remember a project in the 1990s where people bought land near a “planned” road that never actually got built. Those poor families lost everything they had. But this Dholera road is different. I have seen the thick concrete with my own eyes. It is real and it is heavy. Stay patient and keep your eyes on the National Highways Authority of India updates. They are the ones holding the stopwatch, and the race is almost over.
