How is water supply managed in Dholera?

Water supply in Dholera is planned in a centralized and long term way, mainly through the Narmada canal network, large storage reservoirs, and an underground smart distribution system. The idea is to make sure the city never faces water shortage even when population grows in the future.

Now let me explain this in very simple words.

I have studied Dholera Smart City for quite some time because many investors ask about basic things like water, electricity, and drainage before buying land. And honestly, water is one of the most important questions.

Here is how water supply is managed:

Main water source is Narmada River

The city gets water from the Narmada River.
Water comes through the Narmada canal network.
This is the same river system that supplies water to many parts of Gujarat.
So it is not dependent on rain only.

Connection through bulk pipeline

A large pipeline brings water from the canal to Dholera.
It is not a small local pipe.
It is a planned bulk water supply line designed for future population also.
This gives long term safety.

Water Treatment Plant inside the city

Raw water cannot be used directly.
So Dholera has a water treatment plant.
Water is cleaned, filtered, and made safe for drinking before it goes into homes and factories.
This is basic but very important.

Underground storage reservoirs

The city has underground water storage tanks.
These store treated water.
If supply stops for a few hours or one day, the city will still have backup water.
This is smart planning.

Separate pipelines for different uses

Drinking water and recycled water are not mixed.
Treated wastewater is reused for gardening, industries, and landscaping.
This reduces wastage of fresh water.
It also saves money in long term.

Smart water management system

Dholera is planned as a smart city.
So water supply is monitored digitally.
Pressure sensors and control systems help reduce leakage.
If there is pipe damage, it can be detected quickly.

Storm water drainage planning

The city is near the Gulf of Khambhat.
So flood management is very important.
There is a proper storm water drainage system.
Rainwater is directed carefully so that water logging does not happen.
This protects both homes and industries.

Designed for future population

As per official master planning documents, Dholera is expected to handle a large population in future phases.
Water supply infrastructure is designed for long term capacity, not just for current small population.

From my observation, water planning here is not temporary. It is part of the main infrastructure design. Many Indian cities first build houses and later think about water. Here it is the opposite. Infrastructure first, then large scale development.

But I also want to say something honestly.

Right now, population in Dholera is still low. So the real test will come when thousands of families and industries start operating fully. On paper, the planning is strong. Execution quality will decide the final success.

Still, compared to many unplanned townships I have seen in Gujarat and Maharashtra, this project looks more structured.

If someone is thinking about long term investment or business setup, water availability should not be a major concern here. The supply source is stable, treatment is planned, and distribution is underground and systematic.

    That gives confidence.

    Not hype. Just structured planning.
